Sick: Survive the Night – Maskerade och machetes
So I watched “Sick: Survive the Night” last Sunday night, sitting way too close to the TV with a bowl of pågens gifflar and zero expectations. And you know what? It wasn’t half-bad. Not genius either, but very… sweaty. You can feel the paranoia sticking to the walls like old cola.
Directed by John Hyams – yeah, the guy from “Universal Soldier: Regeneration” – so you kinda know he likes it a bit råbarkat, violent but tight. Kevin Williamson wrote the script, the same legend who gave us “Scream” and made phonecalls terrifying in the ’90s. That gives the flick some strong meta-vibes, lots of knowing winks but without being too smug about it. Mostly.
Main actors? Gideon Adlon (from “Blockers”) and Beth Million – they’re doing fine in that slasher-sorta-way where you scream, run, stab, repeat. They’ve got chemistry, or at least shared panic. And the killer? Masked, blade-happy, very into social distancing… you’ll get it.
Some real 2020 déjà vu
The whole thing is set during early-Covid times, which felt a little weird at first. Like, do we really wanna re-live elbow bumps and hoarding-toapapper? But turns out, that adds a funky tension. I actually got flashbacks to när morsan freaked out about me going to Ica Maxi without gloves and made me Lysol my jeans. True story.
Is it scary? Sometimes. Is it stupid? Often. But that’s part of the charm. Think Friday the 13th meets presskonferens med Tegnell. It’s ripped, fast, gory, and a little Covid-trauma-y.
Final thoughts – kinda
I dunno if it’ll stick with me longer than a vecka, but I had fun. If you like screaming at dumb decisions from people in cottages: yep, this one works. Better with snacks. And don’t watch it alone if you’re still lowkey shaken by the sound of a coughing stranger.
